A Haitian asylum seeker had spent two years in U.S. detention until an Ohio couple tried to do something about it

In 2016, Ansly Damus had followed U.S. protocol by presenting himself to Border Patrol and saying he feared for his life. Then he had been handcuffed and sent to a detention facility, where he’d been awaiting a resolution. When Melody Hart and Gary Benjamin heard about his case, they were stirred to action. “He has to believe that he’s come to the right place,” Hart said.
